Job Overview :

We seek a COBOL Developer with Raincode expertise to work on legacy system modernization projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in transactional processing applications and legacy code transformation. This role requires a deep understanding of COBOL-based architectures, the ability to derive business logic from legacy systems, and proficiency in decision modeling and rules engines. Key Responsibilities :

Legacy System Modernization:

  • Analyze, extract, and document business logic from COBOL-based legacy applications.
  • Re-engineer and migrate transactional programs into decision models using rules engines or Decision Modeling Notation (DMN).
  • Enhance the maintainability, scalability, and efficiency of legacy systems while ensuring minimal business disruption.

Development & Optimization:

  • Work extensively with Raincode tools for seamless modernization of legacy applications.
  • Optimize transactional processing systems for better performance, security, and compliance.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and enhance existing systems while collaborating with technical and business teams.

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Partner with business analysts, architects, and stakeholders to ensure seamless legacy-to-modern transition.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for extracted business rules, code migration, and transformation strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to other team members.

Required Skills & Expertise :

  • COBOL Development – Minimum 3+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL, PL/1, Assembler, or RPG in transaction-heavy applications.
  • Legacy System Experience – Experience working on mainframes (AS400, Unix, Linux, Windows, or other legacy platforms).
  • Raincode Knowledge – Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Raincode compiler and transformation tools.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills – Ability to analyze complex legacy codebases and derive business logic efficiently.
  • Communication & Teamwork – Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.

Preferred (Good to Have) Skills :

  • Business Rule Programming – Experience in business rule engines and rule-based programming.
  • Low-Code/No-Code Platforms – Familiarity with platforms like Outsystems, Mendix, or Wavemaker.
  • Pre-Relational Database Experience –Knowledge of IDMS, Datacom, Adabas, or other 4th-generation languages.
  • Modernization Strategies – Exposure to legacy migration strategies and experience working on enterprise transformation projects.
